Special Election - State Senator
A special election has been scheduled to fill the seat left vacant by the passing of Sen. Thomas Kennedy, D-Brockton.
The election will take place Nov. 3, 2015, the same day as Brockton's municipal election. A primary election has been scheduled for Oct. 6, according to Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin.

Brady beat Sullivan by 13 votes in the 2008 primary, went on to defeat Republican Lawrence Novak that November and still serves in the House. Seven years later, both men may once again vie for a seat previously held by Kennedy.
Brady and Sullivan were among those who expressed early interest in running for his Senate seat on Tuesday.
Brady, a longtime friend and colleague of Kennedy, obtained nomination papers at the Brockton Elections Commission on Monday afternoon, the day they became available. Viola Ryerson, a Halifax Republican who faced off against Kennedy last fall, also took out papers.
Sullivan, a city councilor-at-large, and Rep. Geoff Diehl, R-Whitman, also said they were potential candidates.
“I am seriously considering running for the Senate seat in the special election,” Sullivan told The Enterprise on Tuesday. “A decision will be made in the near future after further discussions with my family and supporters in Brockton and the towns.”
Diehl told the State House News Service on Tuesday that he is thinking about running and plans to make a decision in about a week. He said he was weighing the impact on his family of seeking the Senate seat.

I wish Sullivan wouldn't run. Unfortunately, I believe Brady will win as he has the name recognition. I was hoping Sullivan would run for Mayor as there then would be a good debate with Two experienced candidates. Perhaps he has his eye on Brady's seat (assuming he wins) and is getting his name out there ?

States it was a Labor vote because the MBTA is a exploring privatization options. I'm about as Pro Union as you can be; but after last winter, all options should be explored. It's a three year trial. He has never answered an email. Career politician. Looking forward to learning more about the other candidates.
Agreed Dad, Brady soon to be an Ethics investigation. I have NO idea how he keeps getting elected other than name recognition. His sole vote made him look like a joke!..hence, Brockton is a joke!
PS..what's this "karma" thing all about?

So they'll be a Primary for the City Election, in October they'll be Preliminary for the State seat and in November we"ll get two ballots; local and one for the Senate Seat. And if Brady should win; they'd be another election for his seat?

He is knocking on all the doors, and he isn't taking Brockton for granted.
He is extremely popular in all the communities. If he is working this hard, he is going to give Mike Brady a run for his money if not win this.
Besides, if there are any debates? well... Brady should keep the Rep seat.

I think Diehl may have learned from the failed Cruise campaign and not take Brockton for granted when it comes to voting as he lost to Dubois.

I know his architectural designs were all derivative and looked the same, and his astro turf lawn was atrocious.
But, he was able to support 6 kids, a wife, and his in home cook/nanny. All while sporting one of the best white man fros out there.
Always there for words of wisdom to Peter or Jan, and finishing up each night with a bit of reflection in bed with Carol.
Heck, I'd vote for him. Rest his soul....

Vote DIEHL, he is the real deal.
Mayors' debate, my opinion...Carpenter won. My husband thought Tagger would storm out. Thought the end of the debate was odd...no one shook each other's hands...just stood there.
The sad thing is few people vote in primaries, so a small minority will determine the two on the ballot. 3 weeks from today!

I'm sure folks think Brady has a lock, but only in Brockton. Geoff is doing his legwork. He's working Brockton hard. He doesn't have to win Brockton to win the election...
He was instrumental in removing the automatic gas tax. He continues to look into fraud in entitlements, which believe it or not leaves more for those who need it. He will speak for the taxpayer.
What exactly has Brady done in the House?

It's going to be very confusing. Voters have to go to the polls to vote on a separate date in October to vote in the State Senate Primary. That's why Brady will probably win. Name recognition and an even lower vote than the regular Primary. In November you'll get a separate ballot with the two highest vote getters.

Republicans do very will in Special Elections, and outside Brockton Diehl is colossal.
I mention above some things about him... He's the State Rep from Whitman.
