BPS - always reactive never proactive. They have an $80,000 a year Communications person. And yet they didn't alert the parents until 2 days after the assault. And only after pressure from the Enterprise.
Parents are continually told to be aware of their kids Social Media. Yet so many don't.

The Enterprise, who may be wrong, is reporting the victim is 19.
" Prosecutors described an attack in which Thao forced himself on the 19-year-old student in the back seat of his minivan, which was parked near Marciano Stadium. But a defense attorney said the alleged victim and Thao had known each other for years and any interaction was consensual. Thao denies having sexual intercourse with the alleged victim on the day of the incident."

As for the survivor, I hope the healing process commences quickly and that justice is served. It sems from what I have read that they were aquaintences. This man purposely went to the school to seek the minor out. Them knowing each other does not minimalize what happened but should make people more aware that things of this nature can happen to anyone anywhere. School should be a safe place where kids have no other worries than how they did on a test etc.
I do think that the school should have made a statement on the facts, as a parent I want to know if this happened at the school whether the accused was a known person or not.

While some speak of old school technology for school safety, I believe it is important we embrace 21st century technology. Automated systems using high tech cameras, portable devices, real time data streaming. We already have a full time armed police force fully trained. We already employ limited points of egress, They need to move the vestibule in the High School out further so one has zero access to the building without going through a central entry point. We already have CCTV cameras throughout the high school and I would like to enhance that with data streaming to the central police headquarters as well as in patrol vehicles as needed so our law enforcement have real time data to enter a building more securely and safely. Real time smart phone apps for communication, a panic feature etc.

Perhaps more active driving by School Police through the parking lots.
Communications still suck. Always Reactive and almost never Proactive.
And Rape is Rape. No means No. But she's not a minor if she's 19. Still shouldn't have happened to her.

Parents have the ability to place controls on computers and to "scare" their kids by teaching what could happen. It may require extra effort and discipline, but they can also monitor students after school by enforcing rules and checking on them. I disagree with the notion that in today's society we are unable to track our children. Kids will be evasive, but that spans generations. Today's youth experience the same temptations and invincibility we all felt. Though I do not believe the lure of the Internet is to blame, I am convinced the constant exposure to every graphic tragedy, disaster, crime, and disrespectful act 24/7 desensitizes society. We all did stupid things, but we also were fearful. We knew that figures of authority should be respected and recognized there were consequences to our actions. Watching the "sanitized" news was a family affair and we did not require the details of every living beings' lives.
To the middle-aged father dude who thinks it is OK to meet someone else's kid in a parking lot at school; there will be consequences for you.
To the alleged victim; do not lower yourself to this level of disrespect. You must know that meeting someone else's dad during lunch is not a smart action.

"Paul Anderson, who also lives on Bartlett Street, knew right away what the loud bang sounds were."It caught my attention right away. I'm a former U.S. Marshal and firearms instructor, so it was very clear that there was gunshots fired," Anderson, 74, said. "I saw what looked to me like a gold four-door, full-size, I'm guessing a Nissan, and there was a number of people in the car. Asked if his street, which is a block away from Belmont Street and near Warren Avenue, was relatively quiet and Anderson said no. "There's a lot of drug dealing going on," he said.
"Twelve spent slugs and shell casings, both 9mm and .40 caliber, were spread across the pavement along Bartlett".

The shell casings found are of the same type found in other shootings, so we have to assume it’s the same gang.
Summer weather usually has an increase in shootings. Nowadays it's expected all yr. round and we're all getting used to it. Do you feel like we're in Afghanistan yet? Don't send anymore troops there....send them to Brockton.

"Police recovered multiple shell casings after gunshots were fired on Harvard Street early Sunday evening. ShotSpotter, the city's electronic gunfire detection system, alerted police to two possible separate gunshot incidents on Harvard Street and Somerset Place, about 5:49 p.m.
"Multiple shots were heard and shell casings were found on Harvard Street," Brockton police Lt. William Hallisey said. "No one was hit."Two shell casings each were found near 33 and 24 Harvard St. Police did not find anything on Somerset Place and believe ShotSpotter caught an echo of the gunfire off buildings."

No one can convince me that the police don’t know who these gang members are. Sorry!
This city has absolutely no chance of recovering until this matter is taken care of, so just get used to it, because we live in an official battle zone.

Our P.D. work their buns off and are expected to do the work of a full police force, which doesn’t exist.

"Multiple shots were fired on a small residential Brockton street Tuesday night leading to a police search that included a helicopter, but a shooter was not apprehended as of 9 p.m.
"Around 7:53 p.m., ShotSpotter reported gunfire on Parker Street. The exact number of rounds fired is unclear, but early reports pegged the shots fired between five and seven."
