Staples and Westgate Mall was created by clifton heights
Anyone know if Staples on Belmont will close when the new one opens at Westgate Mall? There is a new Xfinity across from Market Basked, Starbucks, Aldi. I miss Bradlees. Any news on the vacant Macy's?

I didn't know Staples was building a new store at Westgate, but If I had to guess, they will be closing both the Belmont St and Avon stores. The Avon store is old and quite small. Staples has been doing poorly as a company lately, and was just bought out by an investment partner group. They announced 70 store closings back in march but no list of closings were released. I just can't imagine them having 2 or 3 stores within 5 miles of each other, in this retail climate. Of course, this is all speculation on my part and I could be wrong.

I agree. Westgate is halfway between Avon and Belmont so I was thinking Belmont is the likely one to close, not really considering Avon may join. New Staples is going into the plaza where Modelle's was. It seems like a larger location, a bit hard to tell until it is completed.

I haven't been to the mall in ages. Nothing there to attract me. How many businesses have folded? The place actually sucks.
A lot to be said about their security. Years ago I reported a dog left n a car in extreme heat with no windows open. They stood there and looked dumb, not knowing what to do so they did nothing. Trying to get through to them was totally useless. All they do is hang around with their friends or other security and chat. I would not miss the mall if it shut down completely. Don't trust my car in the mall either.

I heard but not confirmed that Staples on Belmont will remain. I was told it generates enough revenue. I'm surprised they are even building anything new. They are in dismal shape as a company.

We drove through Westgate one day a few weeks ago and noticed it. Capt - most of us do some online shopping but we should all route for a Mall revival. Brockton needs it and society should support local retail businesses. Not sure about you, but I need to try clothes before I buy, like to compare quality of items, and do not want Amazon to be the online Walmart where we are forced to shop and pay $100 per year for "free shipping." There is a place for both. I can return defective or unwanted goods to a store. I must pay, mail back to online retailers, hope it arrives, they accept, and a credit is issued. Driving to the store is less effort in my opinion. Funny, for all the safety issues I "hear" of at Westgate, I never experienced or saw one. I'm not saying they don't exist, but my perception of Westgate is more one of rudeness than danger.

Seriously isn't everything imported from Asia?

" A new store in Brockton says it has the kryptonite for overpriced travelware, party favors and household essentials like shower curtains, cooking supplies, and artificial flowers.Super Dollar recently opened in the Westgate Mall in Brockton, offering discounted goods that are imported from Asia, according to its manager."

Also, the Comcast store that was on the East Side closed. It now has located at the Mall. The new XFINITY Store is adjacent to one of the mall's main entrances, on the same side as Visionworks, across the street from the Market Basket parking lot.

I must admit that Xfinity at Westgate is better than the location on Crescent. I tried to look up Super Dollar online. Very hard to find. There is one that is in Roslindale that seems to match, but then again, there are food stores by that name, too. Nobody likes a dollar store more than I do, but Dollar Tree feels less cheap than others I've been in. I know, that is a crazy statement. Sometimes I want a small portion of a product and they carry name brands. Travel is easier at Dollar Tree, you get a larger size than sample packs. Quality is low, though, and even name brands are imported. That said, isn't it too bad that we can't have a "Born in America" Dollar Store? I would even accept a two dollar store. It is exhausting to try to find "Made in USA". In fact, one of the most ironic things I can remember is the American Pavilion in World Showcase/Disney World. We scrutinized most of the store and only found one or two items that were made here.

Factories were our backbone. If you lost a job, you could always get another.
The only foreign item I would be interested in is if it was marked, "Made in occupied Japan". Lol.

Update: Chipotle Opening in mall. Also, mixed info regarding Staples:

"The Westgate Mall is "excited" about the addition of the Chipotle, said Christie Kozak, a public relations representative for the mall. The new Chipotle will be located across from Market Basket, in the former Modell's Sporting Goods store building, Kozak said. The sporting goods store closed in early 2017. The Chipotle is expected to open its doors in November to begin serving up burritos, bowls and tacos, Kozak said.

Another new store, Staples, will be opening in the same building as Chipotle, Kozak said. Store employees at the Staples located on Belmont Street in Brockton said that store will be closing when the new Staples opens in the 200 Westgate Drive building next to Chipotle.

Not a fan of Chipotle. I ate there a few times but was turned off when they had contamination issues. I am thinking the Mall needs more than food establishments to succeed. It makes sense that Belmont will close, but that plaza is another disaster, except for the pet store. Westgate Lanes also sold out after many years of family ownership. Supposedly they will keep it the way it is ... until they decide to change or close it. The old Central Music corner is dilapidated, Pleasant Street still is the worst intersection around. South side Shaws plaza and Kmart area also need a boost. I like the Yard Sale store next to what used to be Planet Fitness. I also think that Dollar Tree has the Belmont one beat by a mile. But the Bank of America is only open (what seems like) minimal hours and there is nothing else there. If Kmart would turn their full lights on I would go in there, but it is so dark, my eyes do not see well.
