Brockton, Remember When?
Came across that site also when I was looking for Kings info. Some interesting info. Having grown up on the East Side, I was pretty familiar with Mammoth Mart A paragraph on that site mentions that the first store was in Framingham ' I had no idea there were so many stores.
"In March 1956, the first “Mammoth Mart” (originally Mammoth Mills) was opened in a 51,000 square foot former foundry building in Framingham, Massachusetts. Robert Drew-Bear, in his book Mass Merchandising, describes the opening day scene, where there happened to be a “…very heavy snowfall. As a matter of fact, even the large searchlights were buried by the storm. Nevertheless, the buying public came to the store opening and a new era was born for Max Coffman and Mammoth Mart”.
Another paragraph mentions that Sam Walton visited Coffman (MM founder from Quincy) to compare notes before Wal Mart took off.

Speaking of the "Y", anyone remember the small lunch counter in the basement on the library side. They made great hamburgers!! There was an outside staircase leading down to the door below ground level.

I believe the building is still there and looks very similar to the appearance back in the 60's and 70's when it was a popular and cheap diner type of restaurant. My favorite was the veal and pasta which was served in a large bowl or the fried clams. Great place with 4 to 6 stools at a counter and 8 to 10 booths.
That's where my Dad would bring us for breakfast... But I never wanted breakfast so I would have a tuna sandwich on white bread. Strange, I loved the way that tuna sandwich tasted. The best ever.
