Father Bills Renovates Homes was created by dadof2
"The nonprofit Father Bill’s and MainSpring renovated three multi-family homes in Brockton to get families off the streets. The nonprofit held a ribbon cutting for one of the newly renovated homes on Tribou Street in Brockton Thursday. The renovation was done through the South Shore Supportive Housing for Homeless Families Project."

"Father Bill’s and MainSpring holds about 360 supportive housing units for families that were formerly homeless, with 50 more coming in the next year."

as it relates to humanity, it's a great thing.... as far as brockton's economy, it is one step closer to the imminent disaster that will befall brockton....

provided....

we learn to accept that a certain ship has sailed, a particular window has closed, and a proverbial horse is out of the barn... only then will people realize the direction brockton is headed, and either embrace it or reject it.... i hasten to think the former is the way to go, and let the chips fall where they may

Yup, another real estate parcel moves to the gimme, gimme, gimme side of the ledger.
A very brief look at the registry of deeds would lead one to think that Dad Billy is careless with the money bestowed his corporations.
The property was purchased for $108,000 held for about five years and let run down to a point where a major rebuild was needed.
Billy Boy to the rescue by purchasing it, as is, for $280,000.

To all who dared to take this oath, we thank you.

And we wonder why our taxes go up. All of these non profits don't pay any is why.
Our city is giving away loads of property to nonprofits and not just Main Spring or Father Bills.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, We'd never have harmony

In my corner of brockton a developer has been buying up some of the shabbier homes, tearing them down and rebuilding butt-ugly homes. There were two on one of my streets. Both bought and occupied by young working couples.

I live in Brockton now.

i often think about why people no longer care about quality and aesthetics, and the pride that is supposed to be self-evident in a craft such as building a home

If you're building your own home to live in, you typically build it with pride and your own personal aesthetic tastes.
If you're a developer, you build to maximize profit. End of story.

Unless better looking building or better quality material costs can be recouped by selling homes for more, they don't get included.
I agree with your sentiment, because personally I don't want to put my name on an ugly product, no mater how well it sells. If you build ugly, and it sells, why change.
The City has no idea how to dictate design, so I wouldn't look to them for any relief.

Also, "butt-ugly" is just one person's opinion. Maybe the buyers liked it.

all i know is even the basic house i live in is very unlike the houses built now... even the simplest of aesthetics and construction in 1920 was far superior in quality over anything built today

You can't beat the quality and pride of houses made years ago. The construction alone was solid as a rock. I love old homes.

The casual observer can go to the basement of a house like yours and see that even the wood "looks" different, more durable. You look at the construction and you can see it was built to last.

You can't fix stupid.
