city councilor tom monahan's fb rant...
"If your for the Casino or not it's becoming more and more obvious that politics at the State level continue to crap on Gateway cities like Brockton. The gaming commission was looking for any way they could come up with to keep a Casino out of Brockton and the news of the Native American tribe possibly getting a Casino in Taunton must of caused them to celebrate!!!
I'm getting sick and tired of us being the red headed step child in the State!!! Our state delegation has been working hard to get what they can for our city but they are up against the state delegations from affluent cities and towns who think they need more and could care less about helping the cities that need it!
The formula for funding our schools when new students are brought into the system costs the city millions each year and we are not reimbursed for over a year yet trying to get this formula changed at the state level is like pulling teeth!
We and our state delegation have been hounding the state for help, we need the residents to make phone calls and write to the state house also and make sure their voices are heard!"
lol... discuss?

Mr Brady votes for EVERY tax hike
Mr Lynch, have no idea how he feels about the city.
We have NO chance.

Tom can rant all he wants, Brady has voted for every single tax increase that has come across his desk.
Let's remove the lottery cap!
Lets also not forget that all of the Brockton delegation has been from the same party, they party in power at the state house. They do nothing to increase the business climate or reign in spending at the state level so that local aid can be returned to the previous levels of funding.
The last governor has been spending money hand over fist at the state level, increased the sales tax, and blocked returing the income tax rate to 5% all so that he could replace a health care system that didn't need to be replaced and was working fine, and a whole bunch of other things, including a $21 million dollar slush fund for his travel...
And the democrates endorsed all of it.
Spend less at the state level and give us some of our money back... That would help the city.

I agree with lifting Lottery Cap. And I feel the State Delegation has done squat on Chapter 70 Funding despite their pontification.

LOL! Yep, you can rant.
The casino license thing is a huge disaster. I knew that if it came down to Brockton they would stall and we would lose out to something else.
Which is pretty ironic, you would think that the state house would reward a population who has continually sent democrats to the them.
What has our delegation done, well besides voting with the democratic leadership 99.76% of the time?

The thing about the Casino License, it was never was guaranteed. Repeatedly, the Commission has said there was no guarantee a Region C license was going to be awarded. And the sitting Governor has said he feels Massachusetts should have only one license in order to not dilute gaming in the State
It looks like it's not coming, so now I'd like to see the CC/Mayor work with Carney to see if we can get the best companies to come to the Fairgrounds.
Tom, maybe you can shed some light in who purchased the Temple property ?

um, you do see a trend here, right? .... but, of course, your hands are tied... and homeowners and whatever businesses are left, are left to shoulder the burden, aren't they?
...what a delegation!
