Fiscal 17 Budget Hearings
Whatever happened to officer Healy, who was the last crime watch officer? If he is still around or in charge, why is it necessary to have another communicator of the same caliber?
Also, what happened to our police chief? No sight of him at all ever. Not even a word.

Keep up the good work! It takes a lot, I know.
Do they still have the police booth at the Fair?

In an article posted by Tagger on the Hub, the enterprise quoted someone on the council saying that the police were not understaffed. As far as I know, the BPD has been understaffed by at least 70 LEO's.

We definitely need more cops on the street as Win said, but we need to keep the hard press going on the bleeps running the streets.
I'm glad this has re surfaced; there should have been so much more discussion of this.
I miss Tom M, CC Ward 2, he gave us good opinions of city business. He also has the best ward meetings!

Lke to see that article? That's not how I remember that article. I'll look later. Since when is Tagger the spokesperson of Farwell? And the go to person from the Enterprise? Is it because he's on the Diversity Commission , now?

"Mayor Bill Carpenter) commended both the fire and police departments for their quick response and for getting illegal drugs and weapons off Brockton streets," Brockton Police spokesman Darren Duarte said."

"Officers seized 63.6 grams (2.3 ounces) of fentanyl, $928 cash along with multiple cell phones, digital scales and packaging materials, Brockton Police spokesman Darren Duarte said. The men used various vehicles to deliver drugs in Brockton and other communities in the area. The arrests may lead to police to information about gunfire incidents on Eaton Street on May 9 and May 12, Duarte said.
"I want to thank our narcotics unit and the Massachusetts State Police who assisted in the raid along with K-9 units from Holbrook, Rockland and Bridgewater,” said Brockton Police Chief John Crowley said".. I understand that Crowley was probably the right person to thank the joint police but he certainly could have issued the entire statement and saved the taxpayers $90k

and Carpenter still harping on the BPD OT line item cut:
"Overtime pay for detectives leads to arrests like today's getting deadly drugs off our streets. A price we must pay!"

I'd gladly pay the OT. It seems to be working. We need to keep hammering these scumbags and eventually Brockton will be to hot for them and they will go elsewhere. Losing dealers is not a problem for these scum but losing product is. I have never seen this much effort put into cleaning up Brockton from the past two Mayors. Carpenter is doing what he has to regardless of City Council. Good! I'm behind him 100 percent.

We have to put our trust in someone, which is hard these days.
Hammer away at them and herd them up and move them out.

They already gave him $700 dollars in OT money. He wanted more. The CC said spend it, come back tell us how you spent it and ask us for more. They're not denying OT money. The citizens have a right to ask for accountability AFTER the BPD spends 3/4 million dollars ON OT. Carpenter wants it all up front. What's wrong with asking him to come back if he blows through it all? It's the same for Fire. Maybe, allegedly he's trying to hide $90k for the Communication Director that was defunded? Maybe he doesn't want to be accountable? Who knows. But you have to have checks and balances in a budget.
