I don't know that scrap metal makes a lot of pollution.
Is there a question here, or were you just making a general point?

I live in the same neighborhood. Well within hearing the heavy machinery on an endless deconstruction project.
Some stuff getting dropped off is really heavy & loud in it's cascade from the truck to the ground.
North Cary street is either dusty or muddy from the traffic coming out of the Spiegel yard. My patio table & chairs are covered with junk yard dust in summer.
I used to think of the noise as business activity good for the city but it lowers the quality of life in the neighborhood.
Don't let your Realtor have an Open House on Saturday.

I’m sorry, but I want to hear the birds chirping, not clunk and clank of machinery.
Andy, you’re eating that dust and dirt you’re talking about, so that is a health issue. So is the noise for that matter.

Is there no ordinance that protects those of you living in that area?

Our ward councelor has checked and there are no regulations as far as what time scrap metal can be dropped off...for Dennnis M, I guess the question is why not drop these type of business by Thorny lea, etc...we should get a tax break for having to listen to this, breathing the air and also not be able to opening our windows. also other violations that are occuring all around this great city.....when we moved here this was not going on....now it'st too bad for us....what do we need ward councelors for anyway? just their retirement checks? didn't we have a building inspector that was investigated? someone else in the water dept, the same thing? can you say PRIVATIZE......it's worth considering......

No different than the Trash Transfer Station. After reporting them numerous times, they finally ceased working throughout the wee hours of the morning and now are back at it again randomly.
As hard as the people fought to prevent this business from ever opening, they not only lost but have suffered ever since. They should be fined for everyday they make a violation. If that happened (like it should) they would be forced to close.
