I gonna go out on a limb and say that Mr. Beckner throws his hat in the ring for the Mayoral election.
BTW, this is all just fun conjecture. I have no idea if he will, and have not heard anything. Then again I was only a few points off in my casino vote prediction.

The argument I'm hearing is "lots of people" drive with a suspended license due to the non-payment of excise tax. The Mayor? I'm just asking. It's a pattern of not paying taxes IMO. I guess it's up to each individual to decide if you're ok with that being an issue. I have concern, I pay my taxes and I make a lot less. I had concern and expressed it about taking a cop off the street to Chauffeur the Mayor, and I believe there is a correlation IMO.

Mayor Bill Carpenter drove with a suspended driver’s license for most of five months after failing to pay taxes owed to the state last October. The Enterprise recently learned of the suspension and confirmed it with the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Carpenter says it was initiated in error and that he was unaware of it until mid-March, when he stopped driving and made a payment to reinstate his license.
He also strongly denied that the suspension had anything to do with a police protection detail that was put in place for him last year by former Police Chief Robert Hayden. The detail’s cost came under scrutiny last fall when city councilors were debating whether to approve additional police overtime funding. The five-month license suspension covers a similar time period as to when a Brockton man was facing charges in court that he threatened to kill the mayor. Hayden told The Enterprise last October that the criminal complaint was part of the reason Carpenter was being covered by the part-time detail.
A Brockton District Court judge dismissed that threat charge, against Carpenter’s former paper boy, on March 31, four days after the mayor’s license was reinstated.
The man had previously been arraigned Oct. 23, 2014, seven days after Carpenter’s license was suspended. However, the criminal complaint against the man dates back to July 2014, when police investigated a Facebook posting he made about Carpenter and his family.
In an interview last week, Carpenter said details about the part-time protection program and associated threats against him demonstrate there is no connection to the license suspension. The police detail was initiated in early March 2014 on Hayden’s insistence, the mayor said, because Hayden was surprised he did not have police protecting him in public.

However, after months of "questioning the Mayors decisions" he suddenly has started defending him. I think it's a matter of which way the wind is blowing for PB. Of course, all speculative and my opinion only.

that's precisely what it's all about, for brockton... people in brockton don't like the reality around them, so they gravitate toward a virtual world where they can create their own little scope of clarity- a virtual place for decision making around what they believe is right and wrong, good and bad, true and false that can be projected onto an individual who might embody the same values as they relate to banal ideas about good pizza, chinese food, beneficent acts, etc.

you can't win in brockton when it comes to candidates....if you run on a platform of say, crime...and you win....the following morning after your election someone commits a crime in brockton you'll be vilified as a liar, corrupt, and in the pockets of special interest groups...and you'll get hammered all over lary boyd's wonderful facebook group that makes brockton shine like the bright city on a hill that it is
if you run on a platform against non-profits and every other tax evading endeavor that sets up shop in brockton, you're perceived as insensitive, racist .... and considered evil if you're pro business
...and this is why you get the jacob taggers.... they run on a platform that appeals to good feelings and cheer, and for saying nice things on the brockton hub, and for organizing litter clean-up days at a local park
we're reduced to impotence
