Has an Anti Casino Group been organized yet.? Have the surrounding communities complained about additional traffic, crime and a strain on THEIR Public Services Budget a Casino will bring to THEIR communities?. The Compulsive gambler group will have their say. Will Statewide taxpayers have to pay for
infrastructure improvements. Usually In any Casino plan that I have read about, most and more of the above questioning take place.
One of the biggest hurdles which may never occur will be the Gambling Commissions's approval.
Free drinks in a casinos, be it soda, coffee or alcohol if you ever want to see the serving staff again are paid for with a tip.
Some casinos outsource that kind of service and you pay full price. I became alcohol free in one casino when a price
for a beefeater and tonic was $5 plus tip. I dropped to bar gin and it was $4 plus tip and I was playing the slots..

I always thought Foxwoods floor drink service was kinda half-assed. They used to stop at midnight too, I think because the whole thing falls under Tribal Law and not CT. Had to go to one of the clubs if you wanted a drink after midnight.BrocktonDave wrote: I was a little slow with a tip at Foxwoods and I never saw another drink again...
We had specifically brought my brother in law because he was turning 21 at midnight, and all the service stopped.
Ended up in the Hard Rock. I spent 10 bucks on a Jameson on the Rocks, and it tasted like a glass of rubber flavored alcohol. Needless to say, I have not experienced a Hard Rock ever again.

I do feel sorry for the home owners living close by, but Brockton needs something and we haven't seen something in ages.
One of the concerns not mentioned yet is the increase of drunk drivers coming out of the casino that won't be staying at their hotel.
An even bigger concern would be flooding. Remember what happened when the mall was built? Is it possible for the same thing to happen at that site?

The good thing about legislation requiring the vote in host communities, is that the vote is binding. Proposals in some towns have been overthrown by votes.Capt wrote: I swear, even if the voters are against it, it will still make it's way here. We all know by now our vote hardly ever counts.

East Boston wasn't. They wanted to have a vote, but Eastie residents wanted only Eastie to vote on it, the Mayor wanted the whole city to vote.
Some cities/towns voted overwhelmingly for and some against. If the people decide they don't want it, it doesn't get built. Nice.
Even if we vote for it, which I suspect we would, there is still no guarantee we are awarded the license.

Foxwoods is officially making another run at a Massachusetts casino. The Standard Times of New Bedford reports the casino operator has signed a letter of intent to partner with KG Urban Enterprises, a New York-based developer that has long sought the last remaining casino license in the state. The plan is to build in New Bedford. Last month, KG Urban said it was in discussions with Foxwoods as a casino operator; now, the plan is a go.
Foxwoods, too, has had its eye on the southeastern Massachusetts region for a while, and previously had interest in going to Fall River. That sprung out of even longer-term interest in the state. Foxwoods had previously been after the Boston-area license, aiming to operate a casino in Milford before the town’s voters struck the plan down in late 2013. Like Mohegan Sun (which had sought to build a casino in Revere), Foxwoods’s flagship casino is in Connecticut. The state is expected to see gambling revenues dip when the Massachusetts gambling industry gets off its feet.
Let it never be said that the Massachusetts casino licensing process isn’t without its familiar players. But if you want to match Steve Wynn for star power this time around, former NBA commissioner David Stern is representing KG Urban as it tries to make the New Bedford casino a reality. (It’s not as random as it may seem.)

The license for Region C (SE MA) will not be awarded until Fall, 2015. That's assuming all three locations residents approve a casino in their location. Region C is a full year behind Everett and Springfield, both of which are scheduled to open 2017. Slots open in Plainville this June. Brockton is in the process but there are many steps and it is no means a slam dunk (pun intended). Despite what Carney said, NB is a viable option. Some articles seem to indicate TGC is favorable to NB due to its proposed use of NSTAR Brownfields and its favorable location near the Water. It's affiliation with Foxwoods is a plus.
Also, should the Mashpee tribe open a Casino in Taunton the developers contribution will decrease: 10M will b reduced to 6,750,000

Carney has already said if the Casino doesn’t go through he has other plans. He doesn’t appear to even be fazed by it. Smart man!
Maybe with all of the jobs that will be available we can get some of the lazy arse people on welfare to go to work. There won’t be any excuses if there’s work to be had. That would be a plus, especially if they have to pass a drug test for the job. They’ll get kicked off welfare and probably move out of the state to seek it elsewhere, Lol.

Bedford casino deal is all but dead

NEW BEDFORD — The proposal for a $500 million casino on New Bedford’s waterfront is all but dead, as former NBA Commissioner David Stern told The Standard-Times Thursday that New York-based developer KG Urban Enterprises, headed by his son, does not have “any reasonable hope of making a deal with the mayor.”
Stern said he met with New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell on Wednesday in New Bedford, and discussions about plans for the proposed resort casino on a Cannon Street site hit a brick wall.
“Unless a small miracle happens, we’re going to be telling the Massachusetts Gaming Commission that we are no longer pursuing an application for New Bedford,” Stern said by phone Thursday.
