Temple Beth Emunah has been sold. Papers are being passed in October. Any idea what is going in that parcel?

The congregation of Temple Beth Emunah has voted to accept an offer for the sale of our building located at 479 Torrey Street in Brockton and to merge with Temple Beth Am in Randolph. With consideration to the Jewish holidays, the buyers have agreed to an October 30, 2015 passing date.

I imagine the zoning is residential, right? A place of worship as commercial doesn't make sense. Isn't that Ward 3? Wow, that was a quick turnaround.

My guess another non profit place of worship.

The land is zoned C5 - commercial up to 55 feet in height, 1 parking space for every 300 sf of building space
I think another medical facility would fit the area. Good to get the property back on the tax paying side of the ledger (he said with crossed fingers).

^^ Yes anything but a non profit would be great ^^ Thanks WardSeven, funny how a place of worship is classified under Commercial. ;)

Since a P & S has been signed, how do we find out who purchased the property?

I hope its something better than a DD, maybe a 3rd Supreme! :)

A gas station would be good. A HarborOne would be good. Maybe a Rite Aid (since CVS is close by)

I heard a government institution bought the land with the hopes of building a shelter for unfortunate people!

Is there a way to find out who they signed a P&S with? Might be able to figure for what purpose. It's been extremely quiet.

Last service this weekend, final Bingo Wednesday. Still no official word on what's going there? Would love to know the purchase price especially if another NP goes in there.

"The temple, which is Brockton's last Jewish synagogue, is selling its Torrey Street building and expects to close its doors in Brockton on Oct. 30, amid merger discussions with Temple Beth Am in Randolph, officials said. "

I heard on the Hub that the property is being sold to a daycare. As long as they pay taxes, I don't care.

It's Elder Care. And it depends if a NP purchased. No details yet. Some NP offer Elder Care so they can still retain their NP status. I'm not saying that's exactly what happened, need to see P&S

It's a disappointment that the property will not convert to the "taxed status" but at least a medical facility will offer an employment opportunity on many skill levels.
It beats the church option.

Medical centers, I think, are a stable 'business" unlike say a retail space, for example, Walgreen's which closed its doors on Oak St. That building is still vacant. Medical centers, for the most part keep their properties looking good, ie landscaping. Unlike the plaza on Oak St across from DW Golf course. The grounds are littered and seems like no attempt on the owners part to upkeep the grounds. I won't shop in that plaza. There are other deserving businesses in the City which I will support and which do not create an eyesore for the City.

FYI follow up - registry of deeds 10/30/15 sale price listed as$1,500,000 to Harbor Health Services Inc ( a nonprofit)
interesting note - no mortgage listed at time of the sale entry - must have paid cash
