It wasn't a lockdown it was a shelter in place. Class continued. School police and Staff followed protocol and never felt the students were in danger. They are trained along with BPD, School Police and their experts to assess the situation and would never put any students or staff in danger despite what some crazy people think

It is what it is :) Folks screaming they should have let a thousand plus kids out of the building instead of understanding the protocol or process or whatever word you want to use, should familiarize themselves with said process. Attend a Parent Teacher Meeting, School Committee Meeting, call the High School etc. Then they can speak intelligently and ask the right questions.

This is not directed at you. It's to people who have no idea and scream the loudest.

i get it... i just find it amusing so many people making sure they used the word 'protocol' ...as if following an outlined plan prevented something from happening

it didn't

sure, it might have prevented chaos from ensuing, but does anyone really think that would happen? .... and to believe it would says something about the mindset of people charged with being responsible for so many kids .... and to presume following a protocol did prevent chaos and disorder from happening, does it really deserve celebration?... a wholly presumptuous attitude, don't you think? ....because at the end of the day, if someone truly did plant a bomb and people died, following a protocol would have been moot

I totally get protocol. I had to follow it all through the military. Stay put, assess the situation and counter. Don't go running nilly willy. Good way to get your ass blown off.

i get following protocol, scott... i'm not suggesting people shouldn't in these situations

i'm criticizing the people celebrating themselves for having done so...

there's a disease going around that's plaguing the human spirit, and it has to do with people desperately needing to be affirmed.... needing to be admired, and praised....to be perceived as having saved people's lives.... to want to be a hero.... and others' efforts to deify those people with fanaticism

i see it everywhere....it's gross....and it's going to bite us in the backside soon enough

history repeats itself

BHS evacuated for a "credible" threat 2:45 Friday. School was over but staff and anyone in building were escorted out. I assumed"protocol" was followed :)

I know OS won't like the word Protocol :cheer:
WH was also evacuated and Spellman received a threat but chose not to evacuate. Third one via email for BHS since March 20. Since they didn't have a full day of school, it appears they have to make this day up at this point.

Regarding Threats to Brockton High School
Posted 04/13/2015 11:39AM
Statement of Superintendent of Schools Kathleen A. Smith, JD Regarding Threats to Brockton High School

This morning we evacuated Brockton High School after receiving an emailed threat, the third in less than a month. Our response to each threat has been handled in accordance with safety protocols, the level of the threat and police guidance. Following safety procedures, this morning we evacuated the school and sent students home.

School and Brockton Police have been working with BHS and central administration in investigating this matter. State and federal law enforcement are also involved, and the person(s) responsible will be prosecuted.

These threats have been disruptive, not only to the Brockton community, but to several other high schools in the area. The threats to all schools are very similar in nature and we are working together to identify to perpetrator(s) and return to the routines of educating our students.

We will continue to communicate with you and share information as it is provided by investigators. We appreciate your cooperation and patience.

Police responded to an alarm sounding at the High School last night. Don't know the outcome.
