Perhaps School Police should be stationed outside when students are outside in that courtyard?

m.enterprisenews.com/article/20151027/NEWS/151026153/13406/NEWS
"Two adults and a female student were arrested after a fight at Brockton High School Tuesday where a taser was seized, school officials said. The incident happened about noontime outside the school near the main outside entrance of the gym."

Unbelievable. Tasers are electronic weapons available to authorized officers. So many questions swirling about my head. To which officer does this belong - how was it acquired - was it reported stolen - is this grounds for expulsion - was someone hurt? I have been to that school many times during lunches and always saw a police presence in that area. What is going on around here and how much more must we endure as citizens of this battle zone?

Didn't have anything to do with the police. The taser was brought by either an adult/student. Students are allowed to go outside during lunch periods. They are contained between yellow/red. It appears they entered the courtyard and weren't stopped.

From the Enterprise (see link above)
"An adult woman and adult man, both of whom are not students, and a female student were all arrested following the incident, Bolton said. The adults were related to the female student, but Bolton would not disclose their relationship."

So again the School Dept. will have to be reactive instead of proactive. And make sure that the area is cordoned off before the area where the kids are, so no one can enter without proper ID.

You can buy them online. Not legal in Mass unless you are a cop or work with feds, training or selling. She's screwed. That's jail time.

I don't understand why the names for these adults have not been released. (That I have seen)

Our officers acted quickly and de escalated the situation without incident. The actors who were adults would be charged with the taser possession and given a no trespassing order. The actors are also being charged with assault etc. The child in question was given indefinite suspension

We have 11 school police for 24 buildings with over 17,138 students.

We also have CCTV cameras as well as restricted points of egress. The staff and police moved quickly

The do not enter perimeter should be greatly extended on all access points. School police should be stationed at all access points while the students en mass are outside. The fact that adults or anyone for that matter could get that close to groups of students should be of concern. The security around kids outside should be evaluated in light of how close the adults were able to get near the kids.

Isittime: Here you go. Also, the 26 year old male arrested is the 15 year olds boyfriend. Seems like that might be s bit of an issue as well. :S

From the Enterprise:
m.enterprisenews.com/article/20151028/NEWS/151025830/13406/NEWS

"Brockton mother had a knife in her pocket and her daughter had a taser when they attacked a 15-year-old student at Brockton High School Tuesday, police said. Maria Monteiro, 48, of Brockton was charged with creating a disturbance at a school, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault, unlawful carrying of a dangerous weapon and trespassing. Monteiro's daughter, 15, who is also a student at the high school, was charged with unlawful carrying of a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, creating a school disturbance and resisting arrest. The teen's identity was withheld by police because she is a minor. The incident happened shortly before noon Tuesday during an open lunch period when Monteiro, her daughter and her boyfriend, John Davis, 26of Brockton were walking outside Brockton High School near the entrance of the gym."

As I said previously, the security has to be tightened up especially outside. The juvenile should eventually be expelled and should also serve time, IMO. You can't even imagine the stuff teachers and administrators handle on a day to day basis.

The whole thing is strange. So we know that the daughter goes to the school. Yet the mother and 26 year old boyfriend showed up. The mother and the daughter had weapons and the daughter was the one attacked. By the mother or the boyfriend?

How do two adults get "near the entrance of the gym" while students are outside on lunch? Maybe time for a courtyard or one designated area that can be monitored by officials? Just speaking out loud here, may not be viable, but with all the mess in the world today the schools should be as safe as we can possibly make them.

You can't fix stupid.

'The three crossed paths with a 15-year-old female student that has had issues with Monteiro's daughter in the past, Brockton Police Lt. Kenneth LeGrice said. The two teens confronted one another and began to fight. Monteiro then pushed past her daughter and grabbed the victim and threw her to the ground as they continued to attack the girl, LeGrice said." (See above Enterprise link).

It's a very accessible area retrofitted as a "courtyard". Security in this area should be looked at closely, however, that hasn't been addressed at least publicly as of yet.

I hope it is not true that a 26 year old man is dating a 15 year old girl, but with this wonderful mother as a role model I guess I shouldn't be shocked.

Lol. I think it's just a poorly worded sentence. It appears it's her mothers boyfriend. While a little 'icky", at least it's not illegal.

I'm glad they are reviewing security. No one should be able to access into that area without proper clearance. Especially when then have knives and tasers. Oh and those outstanding adults were released on personal recognizance.

An update from Enterprise:
m.enterprisenews.com/article/20151028/NEWS/151025830/13406/NEWS

"Thomas said they will be discussing the open lunch period and school safety measures. “The last thing you want to do is turn the school into a prison-like atmosphere. But school safety is number one and when something like this happens it makes you review all your protocols and procedures that you have in place,” Thomas said. “Do we place the floor teachers in a different location closer to the parking lot, so we can maybe pick these people up if they don’t head right to the main office doors and we confront them right away before they get near the courtyard? Do we have to post a police officer at every entrance to have people that drive in check in at a guard shack? Those are the things that you have to discuss all the time when you’re talking about school safety.”

School Department reactive instead of proactive. :(

Are they talking about the courtyard that is totally surrounded within the school or the area near the gym, that is exposed to the parking lots? When I originally read this it sounded like it was near the gym (open area.) I do not see how anyone could enter the inside courtyard easily because they would be required to sign in and obtain a badge first, unless they eliminated that process?

You no longer have to sign in? My daughter's last year there it was like Fort Knox. You had to show your license, they insisted on scanning it, then it showed on a screen, they gave you a badge that had some kind of identifying info that connected to you, you wore it, and, when you left, they simply tossed it into the trash with no protective measures such as shredding. I did not mind the security, but I was offended that they were allowed to carelessly toss aside all of MY personal info when they were done. Since she was a senior I stopped going there because I figured anyone could pick up my badge and then I would be linked to it, or they could scan it and have my information. It was a big "to-do" but I can't believe they totally reversed the system. So that is how anyone can walk in.

You still have to sign in as a visitor. I'm not sure how they logistically entered the courtyard, but they did. The mother had a meeting at the school with the daughter. Perhaps that's how they accessed the area? But that's conjecture.

Unless they changed it, once you signed in as a visitor, you were not restricted. My child was in Azure - all one has to say is they are going to that office, for example and they can go wherever they want. You pass that inside courtyard on your way to many places.
