We had a thread in the old program for the sharing of Crime Watch info. Hoping this re-invents that.

Be careful out there peeps...rival gangs are targeting one another with drive by shootings and chases. There seems to be a daily event, last one the other day on the Northeast side of the City. Articles in the E-prise. This all proves that we need A LOT more cops, but until then, bring in more troopers.

All the drug raids must be related to these dirtbags in our City. Hopefully Darwin's theory of natural selection will prevail.

South West side around Forest/Ash Street last night around 10:00pm multiple gunshots heard.

I think this area now has more issues than a Casino. :(

Fox Boston this morning reporting teen in critical condition, 2 others less serious. Until we get a government committed to INcrease police numbers and not just fill in retirements, we will be the contined camping ground for sociopaths and good families fleeing for safer ground.

More resources there as Mayor said, means north side gets fewer..not fair. I pay just as much in taxes.

I don't care how great of a police force one has. They're still going to kill one another and no one can stop them.
The bad guys hardly ever hang around a decent place. They hang with the scum in slum cities where they know they can get away with crime. Doesn't say much fro us, does it?
Drug test the welfare recipients and I can guarantee you, we will clean up a great portion of this city. Toss them in jail for fraud and make them pay back what they've stolen. We're paying for them anyhow, but at least I'd know they weren't enjoying my tax dollars and living better than me on it.
If the Casino does make it, we HAVE to clean the city up because people won't venture any further than the casino due to the reputation.

They're installing cameras at Edgars. Should have installed from the beginning. And don't tell me it was a money issue. The Mayor demanded all downtown business in crime areas to install, Edgar should have as well. If there is a curfew at Edgars, it should be enforced. The BPD should actively monitor Social Media and not FB. Kids are using different sites. Apparently this fight was communicated very heavily that's why 100 kids showed up.

Kids shouldn't be playing in any park after dark, so what is the big issue? If the issue is crime in a park of any type, go there in full force and break them up until they get tired of police presence.
I've been a part in cleaning up these parks for years and for what? That should originally have been done by the park commission, the same as emptying of barrels.
Marching and cleaning up is useless. Put the convicts to use and save our backs and tax money.

Dear City Council, (From Enterprise Editorial): Re: Police funding.

Now compare the total FY 2015 budgets of Lowell – $333,987,477 – and New Bedford – $274, 163,395 – to Brockton’s – $353,781,356. Lowell spends about 7.4 percent of its total budget on its police department. New Bedford, which saw declines in burglaries, larcenies and a whopping 35 percent decline in shooting-related calls last year and the addition of 18 cops – spends 8.5 percent of its budget on police. But Brockton, similar in size and scope, but with significantly more revenue than both, allocates just 5.8 percent of its total budget to its police department. The results of such underfunding are clear.

SMH: Those cities use less money and have more cops...does not add up. As embarrassing as crime, its embarrassing we obviously can't budget in the City.

That's because we don't negotiate with Public Service until they the city are up against the wall. They then have to pay millions in back pay. City hires a Police Commissioner then find out they can't really do that. So they pay the Police Consultant, pay the current Captain, then demote the Captain while paying full Salary. Oh then will pay millions fighting a Power Plant. Yup makes sense. Mayor and Council share responsibility.

I call most of the blame on CFO Condon. This has been a problem for years...before Carpenter and half of these Councilors. There should have been a plan to increase police for years and just not to fill retirements.

We may have a great bond rating Mr Condon, but we have gangs shooting up the city. Sorry you can't see this from Bridgewater!

None of the Mayors, including Carpenter, were required to retain Condon. They all apparently happy with his job results?

The extra $10 million from the Casino should go right into the Police Department.

If the city were perceived as safe, we would be able to get more homeowners and increase revenue.

If the city isn't perceived as safe... Then the Casino is going to be a sewer.

I've said it for at least 13 years, the Police Department should be the highest priority of the Mayor and all the City Counselors.

We have way too many people in office who don't know what they're doing or think they do. People can't just plop themselves into politics just because they know someone. They have to have some knowledge or at least some experience. As far as Condon goes, how many years has it been now that he has been found to be unworthy of his position? He really must know someone extremely well.

@Dave, Mayor has already indicated the $10 million will go to Police, Fire and School. Like Police, Fire is woefully understaffed by 26 FF and is in also dire straits and among many things needs a New Ladder Truck. With all due respect I know you believe the School Budget is bloated. However, It took a huge hit last Budget and its needs are great as well. I don't believe it's an equal share and do believe Police gets a larger share.

@Capn, I'm certainly not a Condon apologist but everything he proposes has to be agreed to by the Mayor and the City Council.
