Novak was created by dadof2
Are you frigging kidding me. I know the R’s in this City are few and far between, but anyone who supported him, should be ashamed. And why isn’t the local paper covering this? He’s back, and he is not letting a stretch in a federal penitentiary get in the way of his political activities.

Larry Novak, whom federal prosecutors charged with trying to launder drug money for one of his law practice clients, is now listed on the state GOP’s website as the chairman of the Brockton Republican City Committee. Novak, who resigned as the state party’s vice chairman when he was arrested in 2005, easily won his post in April when fellow committee members voted to fill the vacated chair. He was released from the prison camp at Fort Dix, N.J., in October 2015, having served six years of an 87-month sentence.

“I paid any debt I owed to society,’’ said Novak, 67. In an interview, Novak, who also served as treasurer of the state party before his conviction, scoffed at his GOP critics, saying he is doing the party a favor by revitalizing a Republican city committee that had dwindled into a handful of members and was flat broke.“It was an overwhelming vote,’’ Novak said, describing the uncontested election that marked his political comeback. “Call people in Brockton and they’ll tell you: They are glad I am back.”

To revitalize a dwindling Republican city committee while Trump is President is like climbing a mountain with grease on his shoes. It is meaningless.

However, to quote that article, "the local party had to clear away just one obstacle — a provision in the bylaws that prohibited a convicted felon from serving on the city committee. According to a person with direct knowledge of Novak’s move to take over the Brockton RCC, the former criminal attorney had threatened to sue, saying the prohibition was unconstitutional. None of the members had the stomach — nor the deep pockets — to fight him." THIS is troubling. If the bylaws prevent it, and they were not changed, then the bylaws STILL prevent it.

dad - are we the only ones still on this sight? I check it often and, sadly, feel that, with the lack of interest, it will be gone one of these times that I do.

Criminal record should equal a dead career in ANY political position.

I have no problem with a difference in opinion. That's why I like this site; I can disagree with you and not have to associate it with Facebook, where the whole world gets to know my business.

Novak won because nobody ran against him. He's filling the committee with his people again, who basically only show up when he calls them.

It's bizarre.

I'm not sure that those changes to the bylaws were rightfully voted in to begin with. In my last days with the Brockton republican city committee the bylaws committee, charged with changing the bylaws, presented their changes to leadership. They however ignored one very important part (the section that stated how to change the bylaws), and they didn’t give the full BrCC a chance to review the changes. In hindsight I'm guessing that was because they knew how many Novak supporters were on the committee. The committee refused to follow their own rules, I had enough and walked away. Many months after I was told the changes were never submitted to the full committee

Anybody that's familiar with the committee knows how dysfunctional it is ant it can't really be a surprised that Novak was voted back in. The committee has been suffering from low membership and participation for many years, it is laughable to blame this on trump. The State committee should wise up and kill the city committee for good. It's not like they are capable of doing anything useful anyways

Sad, ignorant and shameful!!
Throw the Cory check out the window if you know how to kiss arse.
Why isn't anyone doing something about this? Or I should say, how is this even possible to begin with?

The bylaw was voted on by the full committee.

The problem was, Ghandi had filled the committee with people who would only show up if he called them, and since he was in jail, nobody would show up.

Since nobody would show, there was never a quorum, and the State Committee disbanded the city committee. The new committee voted the bylaw in.

Mandella knows how to scare people with threats of lawsuits. It's is Modus Operendi.

Unfortunately, in the years he was gone the ward committees didn't fill the committees and he was able to take it over again.

It's embarrassing.

Very possible Dave, I had left about a year before the state disbanded and reformed the committee. I was certainly there for the first go around, and it was NOT on the level.

Since I left, the committee had at least 2 elections to make things right, and elect better membership/leadership, they failed. Some of the same problematic leadership is still in place.

I was told years ago that every community elects the person it deserves, and BrCC certainly deserves novak

The politics of this City is very embarrassing- on both sides. But the Republicans in this City are really a joke on this. Hard to gain credibility when this Bozo takes a Republican office. You reap what you sow.

You should be appalled, and as a republican, like every other republican in this city, you should be embarrassed and ashamed. Embarrassed and ashamed enough to vote Novak and every other members of the current leadership out of office! But that is my opinion, and I respected your opinion may differ.

To quote that article Novak said, "I roll with the punches. The cards that were dealt to me, I had to deal with.” The cards that were dealt to him? What is he talking about? He pleaded guilty. What a fool.
